Kerala’s initiatives to ensure quality in Ayurveda have made it a model for the rest of the country, Health Minister Veena George has said.

She was inaugurating a newly constructed women’s hostel building and open-air stage at Government Ayurveda College, Pariyaram, Kannur on Monday (August 11, 2025).

The Minister noted that Kerala was the only State with around 250 NABH-accredited AYUSH institutions. This was achieved by introducing an accreditation system in Ayurveda sector.

“We are moving forward with focussed efforts to ensure quality of Ayurveda medicines and to give special consideration to the growth of this sector,” she said.

Research centre

Ms. George said that work on an international Ayurveda research centre at Kalayad in Kannur was progressing. The centre was expected to enhance research and innovation in traditional medicine while strengthening the State’s position as a global hub for Ayurveda, she said.

The new women’s hostel building, completed at a cost of ₹4 crore, has 19 rooms each on the first and second floors, with study halls and toilets blocks on both sides. The open-air stage, built at ₹10 lakh, is intended to support cultural and academic activities on the campus.

M. VIjin, MLA, presided over the function. Other people’s representatives, hospital authorities and officials were present.
