Hyderabad: In a shocking incident, a senior journalist died by suicide in Chikkadpally on Friday evening, June 27.
Swetcha Votarkar, who has been working as a special correspondent and news presenter for T News Telugu channel; breathed her last at her residence in Chikkadpally. She was living with her mother Sreedevi and her daughter at Ram Nagar.
As per Telangana Today’s report, when her daughter came home, the bedroom was locked from inside. When the neighbours broke-open the door, they found Swetcha hanging and unconscious.
An ambulance was called, but it was too late, as she was had no pulse.
Chikkadpally police reached the spot and shifted her body to Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem, which would be performed on Saturday morning.
According to Swetcha’s friends, she drew inspiration from her father who was a staunch communist, who had passed away. ‘Swetcha’ translates to ‘freedom’ in Telugu.
She had also worked in TV9 and other media outlets.
She was known to be very courageous, which was seen near the Gandhi Hospital’s mortuary, where her friends had come to bid farewell to her. There were also those who came to the mortuary, shell-shocked by the death of their friend Swetcha, who had given them courage not go to that extreme, when they wanted to end their lives in the past.
According to her friends, Swetcha was divorced, and was living with her partner in Chikkadpally.
The police were working on determining the cause of her death.
