The Tiruvallur Police have launched a search to trace an unidentified person who allegedly abducted a 10-year-old girl while she was returning from school on Saturday (July 12, 2025) and raped her at a secluded spot, near Gummidipoondi, along the Tamil Nadu-Andhra Pradesh border.
The girl had been staying at her grandmother’s house and studying in Class 4 at a private school in a border village in Tamil Nadu. Her parents live in Andhra Pradesh. After attending classes at school, she was walking alone along a road when the unidentified person began following her. He took her forcibly to a nearby mango grove and committed the offence, the police said.
As the child began crying, the suspect fled, according to the police. She then returned home and informed her grandmother about the incident. She was taken to the Government General Hospital in Ponneri, where she was given first aid, and later referred to the Government RSRM Lying-in Hospital in Royapuram for further treatment.
Based on a complaint, the Arambakkam Police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. CCTV footage was collected from the scene of the crime, and efforts are under way to trace the suspect, who may have crossed over to Andhra Pradesh. Special teams have been deployed for the search.
