A video of a patient sitting on the floor at the District Hospital in Azamgarh, wearing an oxygen mask, allegedly due to the shortage of beds and medical facilities, went viral on social media on Saturday (July 19, 2025). Highlighting the video, Opposition parties and social media users questioned the Uttar Pradesh government’s claim of world-class healthcare services in the State.

“The health system has deteriorated so much under the BJP [Bharatiya Janata Party] government that patients are forced to treat themselves. Seeing such a picture, it seems that both the system and the government are waiting for the people to die with their eyes closed. The BJP government has completely ruined the condition of hospitals; the health system seems to be collapsing every day,” Bhanu Nand, a social media user, posted on X.

“This is a real picture of the ‘health revolution’ of the double-engine government, where a patient is sitting on the floor in Azamgarh’s Sadar Hospital, wearing an oxygen mask. There is no arrangement anywhere, no bed, no clean environment and no basic facilities. The U.P. government claim world-class healthcare services but the reality is for everyone to see,” Congress leader Anil Yadav, who hails from Azamgarh, said.
