CPI urges Naidu to resolve Amaravati Farmers’ pending issues

CPI State Assistant Secretary Muppalla Nageswara Rao on Friday appealed to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for immediate resolution of several critical issues faced by the Amaravati capital region farmers who gave up their lands for the State capital project.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister, the CPI leader recalled the unmatched sacrifice of the farmers who voluntarily pooled their lands for the Amaravati capital.

He said that their struggles shaped the political future of the State and must not be forgotten and urged the Chief Minister to prioritise the timely payment of lease amounts to these farmers, many of whom are now left without any alternative sources of income and are in dire financial distress.

He further demanded that the government immediately allocate funds for the development of residential and commercial plots promised to farmers. These include essential infrastructure such as roads, drainage systems, and power lines. Rao also emphasised that the government bear the responsibility of recognising the farmers’ hardship and acting swiftly.

Highlighting another pressing concern, The CPI State Assistant Secretary said that the farmers must be given the facility to mortgage their assigned plots to banks for loans, especially in emergencies. In the absence of such a system, Rao warned that small farmers were being forced to sell their plots at unfair prices due to desperation.

High fees at private institutions

The CPI leader also raised objections to the high fees charged by prestigious private institutions like VIT and SRM, which are located in Amaravati. He appealed to the government to intervene and regulate fee structures, as these institutions are becoming unaffordable for students and their families.

He recalled the promises made by the Chief Minister in 2015 to the children of all 29 villages in the capital region. He called for the immediate establishment of at least two residential schools, one junior college, and one degree college to fulfil the State’s commitment to providing accessible, quality education, beginning this academic year.

He concluded the letter by expressing hope that the government would respond positively and take swift action to address the concerns of the farming community that once stood by the State’s vision for Amaravati.
