The condition of V.S. Achuthanandan, former Kerala Chief Minister and Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] leader, who was hospitalised last Monday, remained extremely critical on Tuesday (July 1, 2025).
Mr. Achuthanandan continues to be in the intensive care unit (ICU) and there has not been any significant improvement in his condition though he seemed to respond to medications.
A mid-morning medical bulletin issued by SUT Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, where Mr. Achuthanandan was rushed to after he suffered a heart attack last week, said that apart from the critical care team treating him, a seven-member experts’ team from the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital, deputed by the government, had also checked in on him.
The bulletin said the MCH team of doctors had recommended that the current ventilator support, antibiotic treatment and continuous renal replacement therapy be continued, which may be suitably altered as the situation demands.
CPI(M) general secretary M.A. Baby, who visited Mr. Achuthanandan a while ago, told mediapersons that while Mr. Achuthanandan remains critical, the fact that he is responding to medications offered room for hope.
“VS’ willpower and his discipline regarding health has always been remarkable and I hope it will see him through,” Mr. Baby told reporters.
