Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy on Friday directed officials to identify only genuinely eligible persons as beneficiaries of housing schemes in the State.
Speaking at the DISHA committee meeting in Mandya on Friday, Mr. Kumaraswamy said, “Only those who are in need of houses should be selected.”
“Owning a house is a big dream for everyone. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has resolved that there should be no homeless people in the nation. Whether it is a Central scheme or a State scheme, it is the duty of officials to identify eligible beneficiaries and provide them with the facilitieas,” he said.
He said that it is essential to empower socially weaker sections, and that officials should work sincerely to provide housing for such people.
With good rainfall this year, Mr. Kumaraswamy said the Krishnaraja Sagar is full even before the monsoon, and said farmers should not face any shortage of seeds or fertilisers.
“The KRS is full, and excess water is flowing into Tamil Nadu. It is not important how much water we have released to the neighbouring State. I urge the Irrigation Department to immediately fill all the lakes in the district,” he said.
Mr. Kumaraswamy instructed officials to complete their works within the stipulated time. “There should be no delay in executing the projects. We should all work together, keeping politics aside,” the Union Minister said.
He reiterated that he was taking efforts to bring a major industry to Mandya district. “I have already held discussions with several industrialists. The cooperation of the State government is also necessary,” he said.
