The Hyderabad Disaster Response & Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) on Friday removed encroachments from the surplus drain of the Nallagandla Lake, in order to facilitate the Strategic Nala Development works.

The two-kilometre drain was encroached upon at multiple locations making it very difficult for the municipal officials to carry out the project to widen it. So far, only 230 metres of the drain length could be widened.

At HUDA Colony, the compound wall of an apartment complex and parts of the structure were on the drain, which were pulled down by HYDRAA on Friday. They also removed some more encroachments on both sides of the drain, a press release informed.

The drain traverses via Doctors’ Colony, Rail Vihar, HUDA Colony, Old Serilingampally village, Netajinagar to merge with another major drain near the BHEL Junction.

Another press release from HYDRAA said that the monsoon emergency teams of the agency will help the GHMC to clear the drains during days of no rain. They will remove garbage/silt near catchpits and manholes, and de-clog the culverts by removing plastic garbage.
