IGNOU has rolled out a set of specialised management programmes, including an MBA in Construction Management (MBACN), designed for students and working professionals to master project handling, financial planning, and sustainable practices in the construction sector. Alongside, the university has launched an online certificate course for Nurse Managers and an MBA in Logistics and Supply Chain to meet the growing demands of the retail and service industries.
MBA in Construction Management
A new course offered by the IGNOU, an MBA in Construction Management (MBACN), will teach students, including working professionals, skills to manage projects effectively, handle finances, and implement sustainable practices.
The main objective of the MBACN programme is to make students understand the concept of Business Management, how to become a good manager, develop financial management skills, and skills to manage construction projects effectively.
Head of Department of Design and Development in a private company with 25 years of experience, Balvindder Singh says, “Persons with an MBA in Construction Management will play a pivotal role in the industry. They can represent the client as their custodian to manage the project with different consultants, vendors, and contractors.’’
It is the project manager’s job to ensure that the project is completed in time, within budget, and maintains quality standards. “A professional course of this nature will fill a long-standing gap for qualified persons required to coordinate and handle projects,” he added.
Architect Deepti Sharma says, “It is good to have an online course on construction management, though some Universities already have a full-time course in Pune and Jaipur. This kind of course would give the technical personnel a theoretical knowledge base”.
For nurse Managers
Another innovative course started by the IGNOU through its School of Health Sciences is the online certificate course for Nurse Managers, particularly for in-service nurses. Nurse managers will be trained to lead the nursing department/services at various levels, supervise the staff especially at first level and coordinate with utility and support departments so that patients, relatives and staff are satisfied.
They will be responsible for day-to-day supervision, monitoring, reporting and handling conflicts, and finding solutions. The course aims to enhance the managerial skills of a nurse manager or senior nursing officer. They will participate in quality assurance activities, nursing audit, and take care of patient safety issues.
Nurse managers will learn about nursing excellence standards and implement it in the hospital. Their role will be strategic planning, decision-making, and quality governance.
Master’s in Business Administration programme in Logistics and Supply Chain
The burgeoning growth of retail and service sector logistics has become an extremely crucial component in the business scenario. Keeping this in view IGNOU has started a Master’s in Business Administration programme in Logistics and Supply Chain in which the students are trained to take up important roles in transportation, warehousing, and distribution.
Focusing on the unique challenges and opportunities in the agricultural sector, a management course has been started to train students in areas like farm management, marketing, and finance. Though not a new course, IGNOU also provides a Healthcare and Hospital Management course to train students manage hospitals.
It teaches students hospital administration, healthcare policy, and patient care management. There is another management course focussing on the psychological aspects of rehabilitation which somehow is a neglected area with more emphasis being given only on the physical aspects.
