The slouch hat for the lower rank police personnel of the Karnataka police from the British era is going to be replaced soon, as the State government on Wednesday approved the proposal to replace the hats of head constables and police constables with navy blue peaked caps.
In an order issued on Wednesday, it was stated that a meeting headed by Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) KSRP on Thursday will decide on the tender process and prepare specifications and master samples.
The proposal to change the design was long-standing as the current constabulary hats were causing discomfort while on duty, especially during summer.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had given his approval to replace the slouch hats worn by constable staff during senior officials meet recently.
While officers above the sub-inspector rank wear khaki peaked hats, for head constables and constables, the department chose a different colour with minor changes in the design.
