Streamlining the surroundings of Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam, the temple’s executive officer (EO) V.K. Seena Nayak undertook the challenging task of removing unauthorised shops around Kanaka Durga Nagar and Mallikarjunapet, on Saturday. The cleared space was then utilised to set up an information office for the devotees.
Kanaka Durga temple officials pointed out that the EO, who assumed charge on May 9, introduced several reforms aimed at improving temple administration and services to devotees. Development activities under the temple’s master plan have been expedited, including the expansion of Durga Ghat, creation of parking facilities near Seetamma Paadaalu, construction of a new annadanam hall, and establishment of a modern laddu preparation centre, all scheduled for completion by Dasara 2025. Upgrades to the tonsure hall, bathing ghat, prasadam counters, and sanitation facilities were also given priority.
Temple authorities stated that measures such as a QR code survey for devotee feedback, online registration for volunteers, and improved security through walkie-talkie coordination were initiated. For the first time in three years, gold and silver reserves in the temple treasury were audited and deposited under government schemes — 29.5 kg of gold and 639.42 kg of silver with the State Bank of India
The officials said that preparations for Dasara festivities, scheduled from September 22 to October 2, were reported to be in full swing with multiple departments coordinating queue management, prasadam distribution, sanitation, and arrangements for events like ‘Laksha Kumkumarchana’ and ‘Chandi Homam’. A free homeopathy medical centre is also being set up at the Maha Mandapam premises, while quality control committees were formed to oversee prasadam, cleanliness, and overall administration, the officials said.
