Tiruchi Corporation has imposed fines totalling ₹24,000 on owners of eight residential properties for failing to eliminate mosquito breeding sources.

The civic body has deployed 400 ‘domestic breeding checkers’ to prevent the breeding of aedes aegypti mosquitoes, which spread dengue. The workers inspect streets and houses across the city, identify and eliminate mosquito breeding sources, apply larvicide abate and carry out fogging operations.

Corporation Commissioner N. Ponmani conducted door-to-door inspections in Wards 35 and 49 in Zones II and III on Friday and identified potential breeding sites in residential properties and buildings under construction. The officials found mosquito breeding sources in eight residential properties and imposed fines on them.

Residents have been instructed to prevent water stagnation in tanks, plastic containers, and other receptacles. The Corporation warned of fines and legal action under the Public Health Act against those who fail to comply.
