Higher education in India has for many decades followed a story where exodus to foreign University or study abroad is a key knot in the plot. Institutional status has traditionally been linked to the number of alumni with degrees from Ivy League or Russell Group universities, and the number of students who manage to gain admission to Western universities has been used as a yardstick for the success of the Indian academic system.
